There are four meringues on the bottom of the right section blocking four portals. You want to free these portals so you can get regular candies into the left section where all the mystery candies are. It is risky to begin the level on the left side without doing this because you don't know what the mystery candy will be.

You need to wait until the portals are open to bring regular candies into the left side of the board.
