Since it is impossible to move candies bound by a licorice x, try to match candies near the x's to get rid of them. Look for any sets of two of the same candy trapped within the x's. If you can get a third candy to match, you'll clear the board much more quickly.

If you clear a striped candy in the same line as licorice x's, you can get rid of many x's at the same time. Focus on getting four or five in a row whenever possible, since clearing and combining striped candies, color bombs, and wrapped candies is the fastest way to rack up points.
