To make this level easier, you can also use the color bomb. A color bomb is an item that will remove any candy of a certain color. If you don't want to use a color bomb, you can always place a coloring candy.
The bonus of using the cheat time is that you can get extra lives. After you've cleared a level, you can get another extra life. Simply tap on the small icon located in the lower left corner of the start-up screen. This will give you an extra five seconds in the time trial levels.
